October 5-11

Here is the newsletter and ALL the details for this week/weekend. We have a lot of events and this year we are all able to participate!

Monday and Wednesday we have practice from 6-7 at Heights to practice for our last games and also to practice for the Varsity homecoming game/parade. If it starts getting cold or if it rains, we do have access to the gym.

Friday we have the Varsity game at the high school. As of right now, we are able to perform pregame with the high school teams on the track. We will meet at 6pm by the pool, not in the stadium. The kids need to wear their uniform, midriff, pink bow, and cheer shoes. You are welcome to attend the game or drop off/pick up. Be warned, parking is packed and usually has to use the Grace Church parking lot. As a group, we will walk over at 6:15 so security knows they are with an adult. Middle school kids are not allowed to be in the stadium without an adult. We will find a spot in the stands and then do pregame on the track. After pregame, the kids will sit with us until half time. During the first half of the game, the kids will not be allowed to get food, go to the bathroom, go see friends, etc. Right before half time starts, we will release the kids but they have to go straight to an adult. You can either come pick them up from our area or we will be watching them get to you. Anyone without an adult at the game will walk out with the coaches. We will wait by the pool for pick up.

We always get asked 'Is this mandatory?' There are some kids/parents that can't make it to this game because of prior commitment, emergencies, practices, etc. Then there's the kids that want to go and are excited. There are also kids that don't care/want to go. If you have other commitments/priorities that night, no its not mandatory to add to your plate. If they are going to attend because it's 'mandatory' but have a poor attitude about it then no its not mandatory. However, I would like them to see the high school teams so they can see the expectations we and the high school teams have, so they realize the coaches aren't just saying empty words. We all know things are heard differently when they come from someone other than a parent/coach over and over again. I also view it as a program bonding opportunity since we are all together outside of practice. Bottom line, coaches would like to go to the game together and point out different a-ha moments to the kids but we aren't tracking attendance, we aren't punishing kids that don't come, and we don't need to know if they won't be there. Would we like everyone to go, of course but that's not realistic. I'd much rather let you as the adults figure out what they can/can't do Friday instead of tell the kids it's not mandatory and they decide to be a couch potato or hang out with friends instead.

Saturday we have a busy day too. Saturday morning, all grades get to walk in the homecoming parade. We will meet at Grace Church between 9-9:30am in uniform, midriff, and pink bow. We don't need poms or bags. I don't know our lineup number yet but this is a drop off area, not a parking area. The parade starts at 10am, we walk across the street, into the neighborhood, and end up at the high school. Here is the route. We will wait by the auditorium bridge for pick up. Usually the parade ends around 11:15am.

Our games are at Affton HS right after the parade. 5th/6th grade should arrive at 12:15pm, however we know you're coming straight from the parade and need to get lunch so there will be a grace period, especially if the parade runs later than expected. Just arrive as soon as possible. 7th grade should arrive at 2:15pm and 8th grade should arrive at 4:15pm. It looks like the weather may be cooler this weekend but it also wouldn't surprise me if we need to change out of midriffs. We will make that call closer to the weekend.

Hopefully we are headed into fall weather as we finish the season! We have 2 games left on the schedule and I am trying to find out what the playoff plan is. Usually the October 25 weekend would be a game for everyone to finalize standings and determine who is going to the championship game. The championship game would be November 1. We don't have times or locations because it depends on their ranking. We know this will be last minute and understand you may have plans for those days but I will update you as soon as I know more.
